Why Local 1 gives

  • It's our trade, helping our community.

KIDstruction Week is the architecture, construction, and electrical industries coming together. Local 1 wires the buildings these kids are treated in — let's fund what happens inside.

  • The hospital that says yes.

SLCH is the #1 pediatric hospital in Missouri and has served kids from all 50 states and 44 countries. Donor support funds the Family Care Fund, Healthy Kids Express, palliative care, and more.

  • Small pledge, real impact.

$2 per hour over a 40-hour week is $80. Across our crew, that builds. $40 earns the safety-orange T-shirt. $150 earns a Carhartt beanie. $500 funds a care package for a child.

  • 100% tax deductible.

SLCH Foundation will mail or email you an acknowledgment letter for your taxes. Pledge today; SLCH handles the receipt.

Common questions

Is my donation tax deductible?

Yes — 100%. All KIDstruction Week donors receive a thank-you letter from St. Louis Children's Hospital with information for tax purposes. Provide your email on the pledge form to receive the acknowledgment electronically.

Where does the money actually go?

To St. Louis Children's Hospital's Area of Greatest Need. These unrestricted dollars let the hospital quickly address whatever's most urgent — historically the Center for Families, Family Care Fund, Healthy Kids Express, Palliative Care, and more.

Money's tight right now — how much should I give?

The $2/hour suggestion is just that — a suggestion. Think about what you can afford. Every dollar matters when 2,400+ tradespeople give together. There's a custom amount field on the pledge form.

I don't have kids. Why should I give?

More than 273,000 children visited SLCH last year. You almost certainly know a family who's needed them — or will. The hospital's been ranked in all 11 pediatric specialties by U.S. News for 17 straight years because of this kind of community support.

What about credit-card or payroll deduction?

Credit-card donations go through SLCH Foundation's Local 1 team page — gifts made through that link are credited to our team. Payroll deduction is handled by your company's KIDstruction Week team captain — submit this pledge and we'll route it to the right person. Checks: payable to St. Louis Children's Hospital Foundation, memo "KIDstruction Week / IBEW Local 1," to P.O. Box 955423, St. Louis, MO 63195-5423.

David's story

Every construction project begins with a blueprint, and almost 9-year-old David's includes imagination, determination, and a sense of humor. This future architect loves gaming, hanging with his big sister, and dreaming big — even while navigating treatment for B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

In spring 2025, David's mom Jessica noticed a lump on his neck. After antibiotics, specialist visits, and weeks of waiting, a biopsy confirmed his diagnosis. Within a day he was admitted to St. Louis Children's. Treatment has included numerous hospital stays and complications — two bouts with a rare intestinal infection and a brain clot that required twice-daily injections.

His family describes his care at St. Louis Children's as world-class. When David isn't feeling his best, the sun on his face in the Olson Family Garden or a soda from the Center for Families gives him the strength to battle the nausea. These solutions are made possible thanks to donors.
